Australian singer-songwriter Nick Cave confirmed that his son Jethro Lazenby died at the age of 31.
“With much sorrow, I can confirm my son, Jethro has passed away,” Nick Cave, the Bad Seeds’ frontman, said Tuesday in a statement.
Cave said, “We would be grateful to have your family’s privacy at this point.”
Lazenby, a fashion model, rapper and actor, was the son of Cave and Beau Lazenby. He was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1991.
Cave had four boys, and Cave was his eldest child.
Cave and his twin sons, Susie Cave, were married to the current woman. In 2015, Susie Cave died after falling from a cliff in Brighton. Before falling at the age of 15, Arthur Cave had used LSD, a psychedelic drug.
Jethro Lazenby was released from prison on Monday. He was found dead the next day.
According to a police statement, Lazenby’s body had been found in a Melbourne motel Friday afternoon.
The cause of his death will be determined by a coroner. Police said that there were no signs that he was a victim of a crime.
Melbourne’s Herald Sun reported that he was in custody since he attacked his mother on March 7, leaving her bleeding and bruised.
He pleaded guilty in the case of unlawful assault and breaching court orders. The newspaper reported that he was released on Thursday from a remand jail under strict bail conditions.
He was ordered by a magistrate to receive substance abuse treatment and to stay away from his mother for two consecutive years. He was due to appear in court again in June to face his sentence for assaulting and stealing from a convenience shop.
Lazenby was imprisoned for attacking a girlfriend in 2018.
Last month, his lawyer informed a magistrate that his client had been diagnosed with schizophrenia for a while.
In 2012, Jethro Lazenby revealed to the Evening Standard newspaper in London that he was seven or eight years old when he met his father. Cave stated to The Guardian newspaper that he regretted not having had contact with his son as a child.
Cave stated, “But I now enjoy a great relationship,” It was hard at first, but it ended up being great.”
Luke Cave, a younger half-brother to Lazenby, was also born in 1991. His second child, which was only days older than his first, was born to Viviane Carneiro (a Brazilian fashion designer and journalist).
Half-brother Earl Cave, Arthur’s twin, also survives Lazenby. They were born in 2000.
