The 15-year old television personality made it clear in the accompanying interview that she is not the same child everyone remembers.

Alana wants the world, more importantly, to see the real her. She is the one who goes public school, has a boyfriend and works weekends and dreams of becoming a neonatal nurse. She spoke about her past and present.
“My mama did not name me Honey Boo Boo. My name is Alana. They are two completely different people. I would rather have this Alana than the younger Alana.
Wow! It’s over! It’s done!
The teenager continued to explain how she has learned to not let preconceived notions and hate on social media get her down.
“It seems that people still expect me to look like Honey Boo Boo Boo. People expect me to be a country bumpkin riding four-wheelers all the time just because I’m South. But that’s not how it works. My Instagram is full of people who don’t like my nails or my eyelashes. But I do not care. I’m happy as long as I like me.”
It sounds healthy! She’s right! People shouldn’t be judged on their origins.
Thompson has also been the victim of a lot body shaming over her life, some of which was arguably encouraged by TLC’s hit reality series. She doesn’t let it bother, however, and says:
“I feel like my generation makes it worse. Everyone is all about body positivity and body positivity until they see a body that doesn’t suit them. I don’t get why people think like this. You don’t have to hate me just because I had a little more meat on my bones. I’ll never get body shaming.”
We will, too. Despite the criticism, the reality star stated that she tries to stay positive.
“Like, like, I know that I’m beautiful and I know that I have a banging body so… I don’t care.”
Alana also touched on Mama June Shannon’s drug addiction struggles. Since her mother was arrested in March 2019 for drug paraphernalia and possession of cocaine, Alana has lived with her sister Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon. June has since been sober, but it was hard for Alana to get there.
“Many people don’t realize how many people are really affected by drugs and alcohol use.” It’s very, extremely difficult. It’s something I wouldn’t wish on anyone… I didn’t know where my mama was going when she got really bad with her [drug abuse]”.
The teen shared that June and she have made a concerted effort to put the past behind them and to rebuild their mother-daughter relationship. We are so glad to hear this!
Thompson said that she is just “proud” of herself for the progress she has made.
