It’s so sad.
Serge Onik, a So You Think You Can Dance alum, has died at the age of 33. After his appearance in SYTYCD season 11, Onik went on to choreograph for Dancing with the Stars. He was most recently seen in the film version Of In the Heights. There has been no cause of death.

Friends and dancers from all walks of the dance world responded to Serge’s death with a flood of love. Peta Murgatroyd (who worked closely with Serge and Maksim Chmerkovskiy on DWTS) wrote a heartbreaking tribute. She also shared a series of sweet photos from her friends on Instagram:
“My Serge my Koala I cannot believe it, I’m completely broken. I feel so sorry because I was going text you to tell you how much I missed you last week, but it got lost in my thoughts. I hate that I forgot to do this. This will be something I will never forgive myself. My heart f**king hurts, and my eyes f**king hurt. My soul longs to squeeze you one more time.”
It is so heartbreaking.
She continued:
“I just need one more squeeze and one more fight like we used too. I just need one more giggle about something silly, one last eye roll, and maybe one final dance in the club. You were an incredible leader in dance and a king of rhythm. I couldn’t write much these days because of the pain, but I did read the wonderful messages from hundreds around the globe. YOU WERE SOOOOO LOVED…SOOOOOOO LOVED, more than you could ever know. You were so kind, so cheerful, and the life of any party. Your smile was like a Koala. You were so happy and helped others without asking for anything in return. I will miss your joy, that smile, and your quick comebacks.
The 35-year old expressed gratitude to her friend for her selflessness and for their shared memories, especially when he inspired her to dance again after she gave birth to Shai. Peta concluded:
“I know that you’ll be dancing in heaven doing your spicy salsa moves right now, looking out over us all. I will see you again and wrestle with you in space. Maybe we can even break Maks’s bed again. That was a great memory. We were laughing so hard that we couldn’t stop laughing and trying to figure out how to tell Maks that his bed was on the floor. Are we lying or telling the truth? Haha.
My loving Koala, until we meet again. I f**king love you @sergeonik”
